Analysis of trends in extreme temperature indices over selected areas in Peninsular Malaysia from 1991-2020

Abstract This study investigates the temporal variations of extreme temperature trends across three stations in Peninsular Malaysia with different settings, Petaling Jaya represents urban station, while Kluang and Batu Embun represent rural areas from 1991-2020. Eleven warm cold indices were analysed using Mann-Kendall test, Sen’s slope as a magnitude estimator. The findings revealed that annual daily mean temperature, maximum minimum increased significantly at all by 0.04°C yr –1 , 0.02°C 0.05°C respectively. station area shows significant increment an average 0.03°C for indices. Despite that, there no changes total number days nights settings. For indices, decreasing areas, did not exhibit changes. All also similar patterns when compared although higher readings observed during El Niño events.
